Bjarte Bogsnes is Statoil’s Vice President Performance Management Development and Chairman of Beyond Budgeting Roundtable. He is a visionary leader and a popular speaker at conferences all over the world, who has conducted daring and innovative changes of performance management and budgeting in two major companies – Statoil and Borealis. Under his leadership, traditional budgeting was replaced with more flexible, adaptive and continuous management processes. The seminar is going to be on those innovative management processes and in addition Bjarte talks on how beyond budgeting relates to Lean thinking and Agile and how Statoil’s performance management model has helped it to cope with the crises.

Subjects of Bjarte Bogsnes’es seminar:
1. Replacing traditional budgeting with more flexible, adaptive and continuous management processes:
— dynamic and rolling forecasting, event-driven forecasting;
— continuous action planning;
— flexible resource allocating;
— goal setting and defining.
2. How beyond budgeting connects to Lean thinking and Agile / and the big differences.
3. Enterprise as an adaptive system versus enterprise as an obedient machine: the assumptions of beyond budgeting and how it sees the contradiction of the models.
4. How Statoil’s performance management model has helped it to cope with the crises (i.e. low oil price)?

Bjarte Bogsnes and his story on the changes of Statoil’s management model, were awarded with the Management Innovation prize by Harvard Business Review & McKinsey in 2012 (in category „The Beyond Bureaucracy Challenge“).
